During the 18th century, most of the poodles had the size of the current standard poodle. Coats colours were less, compared to those present today. In fact, those poodles were only white, black or brown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the first years of the 20th century English breeders multiplied sizes and coats colours. <\/strong>In order to obtain smaller poodles, breeders encouraged the coupling of smaller poodles to obtain poodles of smaller sizes. In 1922, in Paris, the \u201cClub du Caniche\u201d was founded. It was the first poodle club in history. The American Kennel Club recognized the poodle breed in 1887.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through years, breeders created the small poodle and the toy poodle and, as in the past, poodle became, once again, a standard for VIPs. <\/strong>This time, though, VIPs were not nobles and queens but movie stars as Elvis Presley.<\/p>\n\n\n

Today, poodles have many skills as guide dogs for blind people and to assist people with handicaps. In North America, thirteen poodles won the title of National Master Hunt, a competition between the best hunting dogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through a series of tasks, poodles beated the retrievers, dogs created to hunt and retrieve the prey to their owners. Poodles have excellent skills. They run to take the prey and memorize the site in which they found it. They are also very able to walk through grass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
