Poodles and toy poodles, according to the ICF <\/strong>standards (International Canine Federation), are small size dogs, with a height, at the point of withers, that goes from 24 to 35 centimetres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More precisely, the toy poodle\u2019s <\/strong>height goes to 23-24 centimetres to 28 centimetres. Its weight goes from two up to four kilos. The poodle <\/strong>has a height at the withers that goes to 28 up to 35 centimetres and weights, approximately, 6-7 kilos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Above these measures, we have the standard poodle <\/strong>and the giant poodle.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Point of Withers is the highest point of the spine,<\/strong> just below the neck (see next fig.).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To measure the withers height of your dog:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Put him standing on a horizontal surface;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Take a metre and put it vertically, on the ground, in parallel to the dog front legs;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Find, with your finger, the first dog vertebra (see previous fig.);  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Concerning the coats colours, <\/strong>ICF standards only accept the colours blacks, whites, browns, greys and fawns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to some experts, however, poodles have a gene that causes a double coat colour. Breeders, during the centuries, tried to limit this gene in order to increase the one-colour coats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

International standards do not recognise other sizes. The teacup poodles<\/strong> became famous, and wanted, by many people after some VIPs started to buy them. These poodles are very small size dogs. Their price increased during the last years. For these reasons, many unscrupulous breeders decided to breed these dogs. This caused the birth of many dogs with genetic diseases due to their small sizes.<\/p>\n\n\n
